I was very interested to learn that Digital Chocolate a US company with a European base in Helsinki ran a social media campaign in FaceBook. What’s more I was very impressed by the results. With over 37,000 registrations this is a tremendously successful viral marketing campaign which cost them very little in terms of marketing spend.
There are of course reasons why this works for a gaming producer – FaceBook is all about fun, however this is superb exposure for very little marketing investment (I mean practically zero according to Digital Chocolate).
Recently I was engaged by Nokia to develop a social media measurement framework which is why this particular case interested me. It falls into one of the KPIs I developed for the framework discussing group participation. The framework which is going to be tested with a few client cases will be made into a whitepaper and released on this site.
It seems like social media is a funny thing. It always seems like a catch-22 its not popular unless its popular, if its popular it’s because it was popular. Now I know this isn’t the case but what tools does one use to get that spark?
